Two devices the size of a lighter that talk to each other over radio, and that relay whatever they hear from the rest. With that you send text messages with no cell tower, no internet and no account anywhere. You write them from your phone over Bluetooth, and the phone can be in airplane mode: what travels is not data, it is radio.
It is the only thing on this site that keeps working when everything else does not: in an earthquake, in a blackout, up a mountain, on the road. And there is no monthly fee, because there is nobody to pay.

The same device is built in two frequencies, 868 and 915 MHz, and they are not two settings of the same hardware: they are two different radios. The one for the United States is 915 MHz. One from the other band arrives, powers on, flashes and looks perfect. It simply does not talk to anyone on this side, and on top of that it is not legal to transmit with it here.
That is why no device on this page sends you to search Amazon: either it is verified with the right frequency for your store, or the page says it is not available. Counting the listings in all three stores on 30 August 2026, more than half state no frequency at all, and in Spain 53 out of 220 state one that cannot legally be used there.

What you buy in the United States
The 915 MHz band, and in the firmware menu you pick region US. The exact range is 902 a 928 MHz, at up to 30 dBm.
It is the same band as Mexico, so a node bought here works there and the other way around.

The one with GPS and a swappable 18650 cell, to carry and to leave running.
It is the cheapest with GPS and a replaceable battery: when it runs out you swap the cell up a mountain instead of hunting for a socket. In exchange, the ESP32 chip draws about ten times what the T-Echo does.

The one you leave on a rooftop and forget about.
Same low-power chip as the T-Echo but built to stay outside, and it is the one people set up as a repeater. It is also the model that carries half the world's mesh.

The cheap one that stays plugged into the wall.
It is the most common device on the whole network and the cheapest of all. With the ESP32 chip the battery lasts little, which is why this is the one that stays plugged in: there the power draw stops mattering and price takes over.

The one that needs no phone: it brings its own keyboard and screen.
Every other one is driven from your phone over Bluetooth. Not this one: you type on it directly, so it works when the phone is out of battery or when you want a device that depends on nothing else.
Remember it takes two. They can be two of the same or one of each kind: the one that stays plugged in can be the cheap one, the one you carry cannot.
